Precision for the Future of Space Propulsion

LEUKA Supports the PEGASUS Project by ARIS

Innovation happens when technological expertise meets visionary ideas. We are therefore proud to have supported the PEGASUS project of ARIS (Academic Space Initiative Switzerland). This student-led space organization brings together dedicated students and young engineers from various Swiss universities to develop and test advanced space technologies under real-world conditions.

With PEGASUS Gen1-C and Gen1-U, the team introduced the first generation of its rotating detonation rocket engine. This innovative propulsion concept utilizes rotating detonation waves and is considered a promising technology for future space applications.

LEUKA contributed by providing high-precision post-processing of the injectors – a task that required exceptional manufacturing accuracy. In total, 92 injection elements featuring holes as small as 0.3 mm and 0.5 mm were machined. These components had to meet strict fuel injection requirements while also withstanding the extreme stresses generated by detonation waves.

The successful collaboration led to an important achievement. According to the ARIS team, PEGASUS became the first student project ever to achieve bi-liquid rotating detonations with the support of its industrial partners. This accomplishment highlights the value of close cooperation between research institutions, engineering students, and advanced manufacturing companies.

We are proud to have contributed to this remarkable project and congratulate the entire ARIS team on this important milestone. We wish them continued success in the upcoming development and testing phases.
